Kuantan — 1 night

The capital of Malaysia's third-largest state, busy Kuantan remains generally untouristed, yet continues to grow as a residential urban community.
On the 2nd (Mon), buy something for everyone on your list at East Coast Mall, then enjoy the sand and surf at Teluk Chempedak, and then stop by Natural Batik Village.

To see other places to visit, reviews, maps, and more tourist information, refer to the Kuantan trip itinerary builder.

Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan is an approximately 2.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. In January in Kuantan, expect temperatures between 35°C during the day and 26°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 2nd (Mon) early enough to catch the flight back home.

Pahang, the largest state on Peninsular Malaysia, encompasses the Pahang River basin. The highland area of the state features rolling hills of agricultural land, along with temperate retreats, which were established during the colonial era with luxury hotels and amusements. The rainforest region hosts many rare and endangered animals, such as tigers, elephants, and tapir. The coastal areas offer flatter terrain along limestone cliffs that descend down to fine, sandy beaches. Out at sea, a set of islands provides great dive spots with coral formations.
