Sarawak Cultural Village, Kuching

4.0
#1 of 8 in Historic Sites in Kuching
Historic Site · Tourist Spot
Visit a living museum and interesting cultural preservation project at Sarawak Cultural Village. Sarawak's history is one of immigration and multiculturalism: ethnically Iban, Chinese, and Malay families--along with many others--have called the region home for centuries. Designed to preserve and show Sarawak's heritage, the village of 150 people still retains its traditional ways of life. Take a tour of the village to see Chinese farmhouses alongside Iban longhouses, and learn to distinguish between cultures in terms of design, spirituality, and traditions. Watch a multicultural dance performance in the village theater while enjoying a cup of strong rice wine known as tuak. • Good day trip. Four solo travellers pooled together to hire a driver/guide to get us out to the Cultural Village. Our guide was excellent and everyone was good humoured, we really enjoyed our day...  more »
  • Totally lame as you’re dragged between colourless palm trees and “cultural” wooden huts. That Matang wildlife centre sucked and all of the apes were asleep.  more »

  • A very multi cultural place. Very interesting place, a lot of native culture to see and you can get involve in every activity they have there. Plan your visit timely so that you can watch the stage show, don't miss the show, really worth watching...
  • We took a 6 sitter grab car from the city which cost $67 for a 45 mins drive. The village entrance fee is $50 but senior citizens get half price. There lots to see at the village including a cultural show. We spend about 3 hours including lunch. The village does have a restaurant that offers local food. The shuttle back to the city is $20 per person. If you have some time, you could explore the beach a few minutes walk from the village.
