Head to Merdeka Square, a site of symbolic importance to modern Malaysia. The plaza started off life as a cricket green of the Selangor club. Today, it represents Malaysia's independence: at midnight on August 31, 1957, it became the first place that the British flag was lowered and the Malaysian flag raised. Surrounded by colonial British architecture and the developing skyline of contemporary Malaysia, the monumental area features a fountain and plaque commemorating the historical event that took place here. The area is very nice with interesting architecture. Go to the mosque, and they will rent you hair covers etc. Walk the river of life to see the murals. You can see it all in around 1 hour or less.

Absolutely beautiful location to visit and learn about the formation of Malaysia. This place holds a great significance to Malaysia’s history. We enjoyed here during the day and also came back to enjoy the evening. Must visit as a traveller. Have seen a lot of locals come here to enjoy the evenings, during which they block the traffic on this road so that people can enjoy their time with their families.

Merdeka square is where the city's with most famous historical buildings left a deep impression on me. With the architecture that was really breathtaking and giving us with a great feeling about the traditional side of the city. And make us feel peaceful at the same time. One of the best spots for taking pictures with a beautiful view of buildings and atmosphere during day and night. Plus during night with the attractive light on the building and around there. Really worth to visit here. Can take a walk, jog and biking here too.
