Head to Merdeka Square, a site of symbolic importance to modern Malaysia. The plaza started off life as a cricket green of the Selangor club. Today, it represents Malaysia's independence: at midnight on August 31, 1957, it became the first place that the British flag was lowered and the Malaysian flag raised. Surrounded by colonial British architecture and the developing skyline of contemporary Malaysia, the monumental area features a fountain and plaque commemorating the historical event that took place here. I had a look at this square and not sure what the fuss is about. The main worthy spots to look at are around the square but nothing much there just a huge grass square?!

Absolutely beautiful location to visit and learn about the formation of Malaysia. This place holds a great significance to Malaysia’s history. We enjoyed here during the day and also came back to enjoy the evening. Must visit as a traveller. Have seen a lot of locals come here to enjoy the evenings, during which they block the traffic on this road so that people can enjoy their time with their families.

We came here in an early morning around 7am, the weather was so great and there are many people around here - walking, jogging and biking. The architecture was impressive, but can’t get in to that building, but we could wandering the outside. This area is a really good place for taking photograph.
