Learn about the city's Chinese community of tin miners at Ipoh World at Han Chin Pet Soo, a museum situated inside a former clubhouse. Established in 1893, the clubhouse provided the miners with a place where they could gamble, smoke opium, entertain "dancing girls," and socialize with colleagues and friends from back home. Take a comprehensive and informative guided tour of the museum, see the clubhouse history brought to life through dioramas, photos, and period artifacts from the 19th and 20th centuries, and learn about the tin mining process. • Having left Ipoh in 1984, we were given a 'par excellence' presentation on tin mining and Hakka pioneers of Ipoh by Mr. Leong Meng Fai, one of the curators of this beautifully restored museum...

  • My favourite part was getting to know better about tin mining history in Ipoh. The guide Mr Leong was very enthusiastic to share the history to the participants ,and the villa itself is very clean...

  • This is definitely the best museum tour I've ever had. I made booking online before visiting. If you are lucky enough, you will also be able to join the tour if there are still empty seats available. Mr Leong is super knowledgeable and friendly. He shared almost everything about the Hakka culture with tin mining, very detailed and clear story telling from him. There are also many antique pieces displayed at the museum and bring back so much memories of my parents. Definite a 10/10. Strongly recommend if you are visiting Ipoh.
  • A wonderful visit to this museum. The tour guide explains in depth on the history of Tin mining in Ipoh as well as the migration of Hakka people from China to Tanah Malaya. It is a free tour but visitors are welcomed to give donations accordingly as it is a non profit museum.
