  • Despite its small size, this museum does well performing a worthwhile job of preserving and educating the public about the dying Teochew tradition of puppet theatre. The museum's founders have a long history with puppet theatre (a tale that the guide regaled us with) and one definitely feels that history in the authentic exhibits. I appreciated the hands-on nature of the exhibits: we got to try our hand at performing with puppets, and there's a dress up booth where we got to try on Chinese opera costumes and learn about their symbolism. The guide was very hospitable, and spoke in English even though it was not his first language. He gave detailed explanations about the puppets and instruments on display. All in all it was a highly educational experience. Definitely give it a visit if you are in the area.
  • Hardly to maintain a place like this without much visitors which is sadly. The tour guide and also people who contribute for this culture needs serious commitment and passion that i admire. Usually during hungry ghost festival you can see the puppet show and opera around the town if you lucky. At least from this place you will know a bit about the history and how are they going now. They can show you how to play. With a small amount of fee you can stroll around and take pictures as much as you want, few properties you can use also. And of course you can buy interesting souvenirs. There you can see handwriting script, music instruments, costumes that used for opera and also the box that they used to carry around the properties.
