Stroll around the city's "green lung" at Penang Botanical Gardens. Established by the British on the site of an old granite quarry in 1884, the public gardens stretch out across 29 hectares (72 acres). Amble across the scenery to find the famous trees that live here, many with evocative nicknames like "the five o'clock tree" (its buds close just before dark). If you need a little exercise during your trip, come here for a jog, jungle trekking, or aerobics. Spot the many animals that call the park home, with long-tailed macaques, dusky leaf monkeys, and black giant squirrels among the favorites. Penang Botanical Gardens is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , international travel planner Edition.

Penang Botanical Gardens Reviews
Coming from the cold winter from Perth it was just beautiful to visit such a lush peaceful and tranquil garden setting. We dont see Lillies like it in Perth. more »
This 135-year old park is not big by any standards (only 70 acres compared to the Singapore Botanical Garden at 200 acres) but is immensely popular with the locals. It is more of a park or green lung.... more »
Great place to jog and have a brisk walk after work. Its quiet, full of lush greenery and I like that all trees have names so you can learn those too. However, be mindful of the monkeys around. Do not carry food into the gardens and walk the other way if faced with a Male monkey baring its teeth - The mums and babies are cute though 😊
The botanical garden offers a relief from the busy city. The tracks in garden are easy walk. For a bit of adventure follow the track to the ruin of a surveyor’s hut. Entrance near the Lilly pond. There are a great selection of plants and trees with QR codes detailing each species. If you are keen for group fitness you can find groups there practicing. Look for the information near the botanical garden shop. You can also go for a ride. And beware of the monkey.
